Your builder will cut two cross-fit bars, two spacers, and five dowel pegs, then screw them together into a sturdy ring toss base. They'll also cut and tape their own cotton rope into rings, so the whole game — not just the base — is something they made by hand.
Every cut is a straight 90-degree cut in a miter box, so there's no freehand sawing. Full-size templates stick right onto the wood, so measuring and marking are built right into the process. An adult handles all the drilling, from the screw marks to the five peg holes, while your builder measures, cuts, sands, and drives screws.
It's a quick build — about 60 minutes — so it's a great first project or a fun afternoon between bigger ones. And once it's built, it's ready to play: toss from six feet and keep score together.
It's designed for ages 7-10 and uses hand tools only — every cut is made in a miter box.
No. The builder's tools are all hand tools (miter box and saw, screwdriver, sanding block, scissors). An adult uses a drill, but only for the screw marks and the peg holes.
About 60 minutes.
One 4 ft 1x4 pine board, one 3 ft length of 3/4" dowel, and one 10 ft length of 3/8" cotton rope (or a 25 ft pack), plus 8 screws, wood glue, and tape to join the rope rings.
Both work. Full-size templates are included to stick onto the wood and cut to, or confident builders can measure and mark straight from the cut list.
The plan doesn't call for paint or finish on this project. If you do finish it, the shop notes recommend water-based, non-toxic products.
